Ken’s mobile studio set up at the Turtle Garage
Last year Motorcycle Classics Magazine contacted me about doing stories on my 1962 BMW R60/2 and my 1937 BMW R5. They sent Ken Richardson to photograph my motorcycles. Ken is a Boston based professional photographer who specializes in automotive, industrial, corporate, and portraiture photography
Within minutes of meeting Ken I was at ease and we instantly became fast friends. My immediate comfort with him turned to awe as I watched him study every detail of the motorcycles and carefully contemplate the venue and the light As a young boy I had a darkroom and I’ve always enjoyed amateur photography—I have enough basic knowledge of photography to be dangerous. Just observing Ken operate I knew they sent the right guy. Ken’s photography was so good that my R5 landed on the cover of Motorcycle Classics. Ken did not take pictures of my bikes. He took photographs.
I am on a never ending quest to update and improve the aesthetics and content of my blog. A major item was the low quality and inconsistent photographs of my collection. Earlier this summer I called Ken and asked if he would be willing to come back and photograph my entire garage. Ken’s answer was a resounding yes.
We finally found a mutually convenient date and last weekend Ken made the trip down to the Turtle Garage. It was two magical days of cars, motorcycles, food, friendship and photography. The weather was perfect. We bookended our long days with great wine and delicious meals. Ken is a passionate car and motorcycle guy and he has deep knowledge of many brands and models. We never ran out of things to talk about. My blog designer Sarah Weeger is in the process of building out a new page that will showcase all of Ken’s beautiful images. Check back soon to see these stunning images. For now here is an appetizer:
